Sporting goods retailer Rebel Sport Ltd was yesterday optimistic about the year ahead, despite being hit by a slow start to the ski season.

Outgoing Rebel Sport chairman Tony Whatmore said the outlook for the company over the next 12 months was ``pretty good".

Rebel Sport yesterday reported an eight per cent increase in group sales to $68 million for the first four months of its current financial year.

Core Rebel Sport store sales increased by 9.5 per cent or by 3.2 per cent on a same store basis.
